[ she scoops up some snow, patting it between her hands, idly trying to make it into a square ]

Even basics like getting food or bandaging a wound... I have no idea how to do anything. [ it's said with a measure of frustration. ] I'm useless here.

[She's moving, like looking at Beta's snow square from a different angle will show her something different.]

We could start with wound care. Or setting up some basic traps. I met some women who hunted something called an elk out there, and they said it was more dangerous than they expected.

I know we need to focus on finding out what's going on and escaping, but... I'd like that? We haven't really had the time.

Guess the only way to have the time is to make it.

I have an idea! Aloy, make your handprint in the snow and then write your name above it.

. . .Okay. Uh. Puts it down in the snow, then writes ‘Aloy’ in old English.]

That's fine, it doesn't have to.

[ she crab-shuffles a few inches over and adds her own right next to it. her handwriting is Not Great but w/e w/e

tapping her Focus to take a photo with a proud grin, she sends it to Aloy. ]

Even if it goes away, we still have proof we were here.

[A slow smile, when the photo flips over to her. Aloy wouldn’t have guessed she’d be the one leaving a family moment frozen in time for someone.]

It can be proof for someone.

...I like that. Leaving a mark for someone else to find once I'm gone.

It snowed in the Embrace while you were growing up, right? What did you do for fun?

Well - there was something I picked up from some data, after I found my Focus. The old ones would lie down in the snow. Sweep their arms and legs back and forth.

Like...digging a hole with their bodies?

Making a figure in the snow. I think it was supposed to look like wings.

Look, this isn’t something I’ve done since I was small. But -

[Keeps the faces to a minimum, and turns to thump on her back in the snow. And start wiggling her arms and legs.]
